Dry eye clinic · Cheadle · for Stockport, Didsbury, Bramhall and Wilmslow

Dry eye clinic in Cheadle.

Drops mask the symptom. We treat the cause.

You’ve tried the drops, the warm flannel, the lid wipes. Your eyes still feel gritty, tired and blurry. It isn’t you. Nobody has looked at the cause.

In one 45-minute visit we photograph the oil glands inside your eyelids, show you exactly what’s wrong, and hand you a written plan with every option and price. Then you decide.

Since 2017 · Led by optometrist Sohail Khan, who has dry eye himself · IPL here in Cheadle

Do I need an assessment first? No. Every treatment starts with a free consultation with your optometrist, here in Cheadle or on the phone. EyeRelief is the one our optometrists recommend most.

Dry eye, explained

Most dry eye is blocked oil glands. Drops can’t reach them.

Your tears need a thin layer of oil from tiny glands in your eyelids. When those glands block, your tears dry in seconds: gritty, burning, tired eyes that water. Drops add water for a few minutes. Clearing the glands is what lasts, and that’s what we do here in Cheadle.

Why most people choose EyeRelief

EyeClean clears your blocked glands. EyeRelief does that too, and treats why they keep blocking. Each visit, in one chair:

  1. IPL (intense pulsed light) melts the oil deep in the glands and calms the inflamed vessels along the lid
  2. Low-level light therapy (LLLT), a red light mask that calms inflammation in the lids, helps the glands regenerate and warms them slightly
  3. Blephasteam warm steam goggles soften what’s left
  4. Every gland cleared by hand (gland expression)

A good first step for mild dry eye: gritty or tired eyes and crusty lashes that haven’t been going on for long.

The EyeClean Programme

3 visits, about 30 minutes each

  • Each visit: Blephasteam warm steam goggles soften the hardened oil, your optometrist clears every gland by hand, then a BlephEx deep clean of your lid edges
  • Home kit to keep it going between visits
  • Follow-up: your tests repeated, so you see the change in numbers
  • Add red light at every visit: +£95

Getting here

Where our dry eye patients travel from

We’re at 19 Wilmslow Road, Cheadle, with free parking on Wilmslow Road and behind the practice. A short drive from the A34, and the 11, 11A and 130 buses stop outside.

CheadleOn the doorstep. Ashworth Opticians was the name over the door for decades; when Ian retired we took it on, and many of the dry eye patients we see now were his patients first.
Cheadle HulmeFive minutes down the A5149. The largest number of our dry eye patients after Cheadle itself.
Gatley and Heald GreenFive minutes. Our Heald Green practice on Finney Lane does the assessment and first treatment too — book whichever is easier; the imaging is sharper here.
BramhallEight minutes via Bramhall Lane. A lot of retired Bramhall patients who’d been told dry eye was “just age”.
StockportTen minutes. If you’re on the list at Stepping Hill for your eyes, we can see you meanwhile and write to them.
Adswood, Davenport and EdgeleyTen minutes.
Didsbury and NorthendenTen minutes up the A34 or over Kingsway. For most of Didsbury we’re the nearest gland imaging.
Wilmslow and HandforthFifteen minutes. Handforth is closer to us than to Wilmslow’s own opticians for most of the estate.
Hazel GroveFifteen minutes.
Sale and AltrinchamTwenty minutes along the M60. Worth it for the imaging; tell us you’re travelling and we’ll try to do assessment and first treatment in one visit.

Questions

Dry eye in Cheadle: your questions

Do you do IPL in Cheadle?

Yes. IPL, red light therapy, EyeClean, punctal plugs and Lacrifill are all done here on Wilmslow Road. Your first visit starts with a free consultation with your optometrist.

I’m under Stepping Hill or the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. Can I still come?

Yes, and tell us who you’re under so we can write to them. Many patients use us while they wait, and some are discharged back to us for ongoing care.

What is the HD Firefly?

An ophthalmology-grade digital slit lamp that records your eyelids in high definition. We show you your own oil glands on a large screen and point to exactly where the blockages are. Cheadle is the only practice in our group with it.

Where do I park?

Free parking on Wilmslow Road and behind the practice at 19 Wilmslow Road, SK8 1DW. The 11, 11A and 130 buses stop outside, and it’s a short drive from the A34.

Do I need a referral?

No. Book online or call us on 0161 428 3717. No GP referral needed.

Is dry eye treatment on the NHS?

No. An NHS sight test covers your vision and eye health, not gland imaging or dry eye treatment. Every price is shown before you decide.
