Lens care
Everyone who wears monthly or two-weekly lenses, RGP or scleral lenses, and anyone who has ever topped up old solution.
Wash and dry your hands. Rub and rinse each lens with fresh solution, never water. Fresh solution in a clean case every night, and a new case every month. Never sleep in lenses unless they were fitted for it. Never wear them swimming or in the shower. Throw away a lens that has been dropped or feels wrong. Keep a pair of glasses for the days your eyes need a rest. Use the solution we recommend for your lens, because not all solutions suit all lenses. Keep your yearly aftercare. Ring us the same day if an eye is red, painful, light-sensitive or your vision drops.
Most serious lens problems come from three things: water, sleeping in lenses, and old solution. Avoid those three and contact lenses are among the safest things you can put in your eye.
The plan
To your aftercare check or your fitting, so we can see exactly what you use now.
And give you a simple routine you can keep to, written down.
We look at your eyes with your lenses in, and remind you when the next check is due.
Skip the basics, and a simple infection can keep you out of lenses for weeks.
Get the routine right, and your lenses stay comfortable and your eyes stay healthy.
