The problem

What people tell us about buying Tom Ford.

  • “I love the look but don’t know which shape suits me.”
  • “I don’t want to buy designer frames online and hope.”
  • “Will my prescription look thick in them?”
  • “Can I have varifocals in Tom Ford frames?”
  • “What if something breaks?”
  • “I’d like sunglasses to match.”

Designer frames should feel special from the day you collect them. Trying them on with someone who knows the collection takes the guesswork out.

Why us

Tom Ford is on the shelf at all five of our practices, and every frame is fitted and glazed by our own team.

The house

Tom Ford, and why the frames are more than plastic

Tom Ford launched his own house in 2005 after remaking Gucci, and eyewear was the first thing he sold. The frames are unmistakable: a metal T at the hinge, deep tortoiseshell and black acetate, and shapes that reference the 1960s and 70s without copying them. Made in Italy, and heavier in the hand than most, which is part of the pleasure.

Known for

Three things to know about Tom Ford

  1. 01

    The T hinge

The metal T on every temple

  2. 02

    Vintage proportions

    Nineteen-sixties and seventies shapes, redrawn

  3. 03

    Made in Italy

    Thick acetate, polished by hand

Who they suit

Someone who wants classic and glamorous at once. The wider fronts suit a strong face; the Havana colours warm a pale complexion.

A name on the frame does not mean it will suit your face. We bring you a shortlist rather than a wall, and we say gently when one does not work.

Which suits you

Which Tom Ford frame suits you?

We look at your face and your prescription first, then bring you the few Tom Ford frames that work.

1A strong or square face

The rounder, softer Tom Ford shapes balance a strong jaw. The boldest square fronts can look heavy.

2A round or soft face

The angular and rectangular fronts add definition, and the T at the hinge draws the eye outwards.

3A narrow or small face

The smaller sizes and the finer metal styles, so the frame doesn’t swallow your face.

4Your prescription

Thick acetate hides a strong lens edge well. For varifocals, the front needs enough depth for the reading part, and we check that first.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I buy Tom Ford glasses near me?

At all five of our practices: Abra & Co in Cheadle and Middleton, Ashworth Opticians in Heald Green, Winsford Eye & Footcare in Winsford, and Armitage Opticians in Heckmondwike. Book an eye test online or ring the practice, and we will have the collection ready for you. If there is a particular model you want, tell us and we will bring it in.

Who makes Tom Ford glasses?

The frames are designed by the Tom Ford house and made under licence by Marcolin, the Italian eyewear maker. Much of the collection is made in Italy.

Are Tom Ford glasses worth it?

If you love the look and you wear your glasses every day, yes. The acetate is thick and polished, the hinges are solid, and the shapes stay in style. The honest test is whether the frame suits your face, which is why we suggest you try them on with us first.

Can I have varifocals in Tom Ford frames?

Yes, in most of the collection. The front needs enough depth for the reading part of the lens, so we check that before you choose, then measure you in the frame. How varifocals work →

Do Tom Ford glasses come with a warranty?

Yes. They are covered against manufacturing faults, and because you buy them from us, we deal with any claim for you. Adjustments are free for as long as you wear them.

Do you sell Tom Ford sunglasses?

Yes, and we can put your prescription in them, including tinted and polarised lenses. Ask when you book and we will have the sunglasses out for you.

How much do Tom Ford glasses cost?

Tom Ford sits towards the upper part of our frame range, which runs from £70 to £850. Lenses are priced separately and shown before you decide. Pay half today and spread the rest over 4, 6, 8 or 10 months, interest free, with nothing added.
