About Dita
Dita was founded in Los Angeles in 1995 by John Juniper and Jeff Solorio, who set out to make a frame line that combined the engineering precision of Japanese watchmaking with the personality of vintage Hollywood. Every Dita frame is hand-made at a single workshop in the Sabae region of Japan — the spiritual home of titanium eyewear. A single Dita can take three months and over a hundred separate steps to complete: machined titanium parts, hand-polished Japanese acetate, signed temples engraved with the model number, and adjustable nose pads designed for a precise European fit.
Who wears Dita
Dita customers tend to be people who care about the way something is made, not just how it looks. Architects, watch collectors, designers, doctors, founders. People who notice the seven-barrel hinges, the recessed temple screws, the weight balance between titanium and acetate. If you have ever upgraded from a chain-store frame and realised that something thirty grams lighter sat on your face for a week before you remembered it was there — Dita is that next step.
The Dita collection at Abra & Co
Dita’s collection spans architectural metals (Mach-One, Statesman, Souliner), heavyweight acetates (Sequoia, Aristocrat, Vantage), and clean optical staples (Nomad, Forsythe, Lancier). For sunglasses, the Mach-One and Mach-Six remain iconic — also worn by James Bond in Skyfall and SPECTRE. We stock the optical collection most heavily; sunglasses are available to order from the full UK range within five working days.
Where to try on Dita in Greater Manchester
Available at our Cheadle and Heald Green practices. Call 0161 428 3717 (Cheadle) or 0161 437 3400 (Heald Green) to reserve a try-on. We hold a curated selection in store; if a specific model is not on the shelf, we can have it sent from the UK distributor for an in-person fitting within five working days.
The styling consultation is the part most patients tell us they didn’t expect. It’s a 45-minute session with one of our trained dispensers where we look at your face shape, colouring, prescription strength, and how you actually wear your glasses (full-time, part-time, work-only, screen-only). We then pull out the frames in store that would work for you, including the Dita pieces that match. It’s included free with any frame purchase and there’s no obligation. We’ve found that most patients try four or five frames they would never have picked off the wall on their own — and walk out with something they love.
Prescription lenses for Dita frames
Dita frames take prescription lenses up to roughly +6.00 / -6.00, including progressive (varifocal) lenses, tinted sunglasses lenses, photochromic Transitions, and polarised options. For prescriptions outside that range, we will recommend lens options during your consultation. Lens prices start at £180 for our HD single-vision package; full progressive packages are usually £350–£480 depending on coating and brand.
Frequently asked questions about Dita
How much do Dita frames cost?
Optical frames typically range from £450 to £950 depending on the model. Limited edition or fully hand-finished acetate models can sit higher. We can show you the full range at the time of your visit so you can compare side by side; there is no obligation to order.
Can I bring my own prescription to fit Dita frames?
Yes. If you already have a recent eye-test prescription (within the last two years), we can fit Dita frames with new prescription lenses without you needing a fresh eye test. If your prescription is older or you would like an updated one, we offer 45-minute eye tests with OCT scans at all five practices.
Do Dita frames suit my face shape?
Most Dita styles work across multiple face shapes — the brand is engineered for a wider European fit rather than the narrower Asian fit you sometimes see with luxury Japanese brands. We include a complimentary 45-minute eyewear styling consultation where one of our trained dispensers can talk through what suits your colouring, profile, and lifestyle.
Can I order Dita sunglasses with my prescription?
Yes — Dita’s acetate and titanium sunglass frames take prescription lenses, including polarised, gradient tint, and full sun lens packages. Lead times for prescription sun-lensed Dita pieces are typically two to three weeks.
