The house

Porsche Design, and why the frames are more than plastic

Porsche Design was founded in 1972 by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the man who drew the 911. In 1978 it released the P’8478, an aviator sunglass with interchangeable lenses that has never gone out of production and never really gone out of fashion. The optical frames follow the same rules: titanium, precise engineering, no decoration that does not do a job, and a finish that looks better the closer you get.

Known for

Three things to know about Porsche Design

  1. 01

    The P’8478

The aviator with interchangeable lenses, in production since 1978

  2. 02

    Titanium engineering

Light, precise, built like the cars

  3. 03

    No ornament

Function first, and it is the function that looks good

Who they suit

People who like things that are engineered rather than styled. Clean metal frames for a strong jawline; the aviators suit almost everyone.

A name on the frame does not mean it will suit your face. We bring you a shortlist rather than a wall, and we say gently when one does not work.

Try them on

Your eye test first

Free on the NHS if you qualify, £55 privately. Forty-five minutes with the optometrist, and styling is part of the visit, not an extra.

Sixty days to love them

If the fit or the lenses are not right, we change the frame or the lenses at no charge. Adjustments and a Specs MOT are free for as long as you wear them.

Frames across our ranges run from £70 to £850. 0% finance: half today, the rest over 4, 6, 8 or 10 months.

Frequently asked questions

Where can I try Porsche Design glasses on near me?

At Abra & Co in Cheadle, Middleton, Heald Green, Winsford and Heckmondwike. Book an eye test online or ring the practice, and we will have the collection ready for you. If there is a particular model you want, tell us and we will bring it in.

Can I have my prescription in Porsche Design frames?

Yes, including varifocals and high prescriptions. We measure and fit the lenses here. Single vision lenses run from £109 to £499, and every option is shown with its price before you decide.

Do you sell Porsche Design sunglasses?

Yes, and we glaze them with your prescription, including tinted and polarised lenses. Ask when you book and we will have the sunglass collection out for you.

What if Porsche Design does not suit my face?

Then we will say so, kindly, and show you what does. A name on the frame does not mean it will suit you; that is the first thing we say about every brand. And if you buy and change your mind within sixty days, we change the frame or the lenses at no charge.

How much do Porsche Design glasses cost?

Frames across our ranges run from £70 to £850; Porsche Design sits towards the upper part of that. Lenses are priced separately and shown before you decide. Pay half today and spread the rest over 4, 6, 8 or 10 months, interest free, with nothing added.
