A mirror coating that cuts glare and gives Oakley lenses their colour.
Jim Jannard started Oakley in his garage in 1975 with $300, naming it after his English Setter, Oakley Anne. His first product was a motorcycle grip, sold from his car at motocross races.
The O-Frame goggle arrived in 1980 and the first sunglasses, the Eyeshades, in 1984. Oakley’s Iridium mirror lens coating was introduced in the 1980s. Luxottica bought the company in 2007, and it is now part of EssilorLuxottica.
