Austria, now Italy · since 1956
Born on the racetrack in 1956.
On the shelf in Winsford. Every frame glazed here with your lenses.
The house
Carrera was founded in Austria in 1956 by Wilhelm Anger and named after the Carrera Panamericana road race. It made goggles and sports eyewear first, and the racing heritage still shows: bold sunglasses with coloured lenses, the Carrera flag on the temple, and optical frames with a sporting edge. Now made in Italy.
Known for
Named after a road race; goggles came first
The shield and aviator shapes that made the name
Everyday frames with a bit of speed in them
Someone who likes a sporty, slightly retro look. The larger shapes suit a strong face; the metal optical frames suit most.
A name on the frame does not mean it will suit your face. We bring you a shortlist rather than a wall, and we say gently when one does not work.

Then we will say so, kindly, and show you what does. A name on the frame does not mean it will suit you; that is the first thing we say about every brand. And if you buy and change your mind within sixty days, we change the frame or the lenses at no charge.
Frames across our ranges run from £70 to £850; Carrera sits towards the upper part of that. Lenses are priced separately and shown before you decide. Pay half today and spread the rest over 4, 6, 8 or 10 months, interest free, with nothing added.
