Free · Today · Winsford, Northwich, Middlewich, Crewe
Leighton is a long wait for a sore eye. Ring Delamere Street and an optometrist looks at it under the microscope today, free with a local GP, whether or not you have been to us before. If it needs the eye department, we ring them and send the scans while you are still in the chair.

Come here first
Winsford, Northwich, Middlewich, Sandbach, Crewe, Nantwich, Knutsford, Tarporley, Warrington: wherever you are in mid Cheshire, come here first. We look at the eye properly today, and if it needs a specialist, we refer you on and fast-track it ourselves.
Come here instead. We have the eye microscope, the pressure check and the retinal scanner the surgery doesn’t, and we see you today, not next week. We’ll write to your GP afterwards.
Come here first. Twenty minutes with an optometrist on Delamere Street beats hours at Leighton, and we have the equipment to find what’s wrong. If it needs the eye department, we ring them while you’re in the chair, send your scans ahead, and you go in fast-tracked, not to the back of the queue.
Doesn’t matter. Anyone nearby with an urgent eye problem is seen today, free with a local GP. No referral, no forms, no charge. Ring, and you’re booked in.
Ring for any of them. Every one is seen today.
“My eye is red and sore and it started this week.”
Conjunctivitis, a scratch, an inflamed lid or a dry eye flare, most of the time. Seen under the microscope and usually treated in the chair the same day.
“Flashes of light, and floaters I have never had before.”
Ring today, even if it has calmed down. Usually the gel inside the eye separating harmlessly, but sometimes a retinal tear that needs the hospital quickly. We look at the back of the eye and know in twenty minutes.
“One eye went blurry this morning.”
Ring now. A sudden change in one eye is always seen the same day. A curtain across the vision is A&E, and ring us on the way.
“Something flew into my eye on the farm or at the works.”
Do not rub. Rinse with clean water, then ring. Metal, grit and chaff can be found and removed under the microscope, and the surface checked for a scratch.
“My eyelid has swollen up and it is hot.”
A stye or a blocked gland: common and treatable here. Hot and spreading, with a temperature: seen today.
“My contact lens eye is red.”
Lens out now, keep it and the case, and ring. Lens wearers with a red eye are seen the same day, because an infection under a lens moves fast.
Free. Same-day appointments at Winsford Eye & Footcare, 27 Delamere Street.
The exceptions
A blow to the eye and you cannot see properly, or a cut to the eye itself.
Chemical in the eye: rinse with water for fifteen minutes first, then go.
Sudden loss of vision in one eye, like a curtain coming down.
A very painful eye with nausea or a headache, especially with haloes around lights.
Leighton in Crewe, the Countess of Chester and the Royal Stoke all have A&E. Everything else: ring Delamere Street, today.

Five practices, one family
The name says footcare because podiatry shares the building; the eye clinic is a full independent opticians, run the way we would want our own family looked after: unhurried, honest, and by people who know your name. Four sister practices share the same training and the same rule for urgent eyes: today, and free.
